Backwoods Cabin | Built-in, Off-Grid Refrigeration
JC Desclos has several off-grid cabins up in New Hampshire and has created some interesting, how-to DIY video’s for cabin living. This video demonstrates his built-in icebox at one of his off grid cabins. The unit allows him to utilize mother nature to keep his food cold approximately half the year without any power or propane.
If you are planning on building one of our plans in states that get really cold half the year or longer having a built-in ice box like this would be a great way to cut down on your utility consumption, whether it be electric, propane or solar. It’s definitely something to consider.
Plan 630 | New Plan Production
Texas Tiny Homes | Plan 618, one our most popular selling small house plans is now in full 3D production. I did the old school production for the plan 4 years ago. This new production will provide 3D renderings, and will make it easier to do modifications for future clients/customers. The Chief Architect 9 software that our draftsmen/architects use also provides a detailed materials list for the small house plan, and can also provide an HVAC plan for the home the original version did not provide. 
These are some renderings of the upstairs bedroom suite in the now 630 square foot home, which has a full staircase leading up to it, and a full bathroom with shower stall. 
The small luxury home also has a half bath/utility room with kitchen pantry downstairs. It has a good size living room and decent size covered front porch. The new production will be available in our online store in the next week or two.

Telluride, Colorado

Telluride is tucked into a box canyon surrounded by 13,000 and 14,000-foot peaks. The town of Telluride is just eight blocks wide and twelve blocks long. Because of its significant role in the history of the American West, the core area of Telluride was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1964. This listing is the highest level of historic status available from the United States Secretary of the Interior. These sites are so special that they are eligible for consideration to become national parks. With the town’s colorful Victorian-era homes, clapboard storefronts, boutiques, art galleries, gourmet restaurants, historic buildings and more, Telluride is a delight to explore. Our citizens are committed to preserving Telluride’s historically significant architecture, open space, traditional design elements and, most of all, Telluride’s small-town mountain lifestyle.
The town of Telluride is the county seat and most populous town of San Miguel County in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Colorado.[5] The town is a former silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains. The first gold mining claim was made in the mountains above Telluride in 1875 and early settlement of what is now Telluride followed. The town itself was founded in 1878 as “Columbia”, but due to confusion with a California town of the same name, was renamed Telluride in 1887, for the gold telluride minerals found in other parts of Colorado. These telluride minerals were never located near Telluride, causing the town to be named for a mineral which was never mined there. However, the area’s mines for some years provided zinc, lead, copper, silver, and other gold ores. 
Telluride sits in a box canyon. Steep forested mountains and cliffs surround it, with Bridal Veil Falls at the head of the canyon. Numerous weathered ruins of old mining operations dot the hillsides. A free gondolaconnects the town with its companion town, Mountain Village, Colorado, at the base of the ski area. Telluride and the surrounding area have featured prominently in pop culture. It is the subject of several popular songs. It is especially known for its ski resort and slopes during the winter as well as an extensive festival schedule during the summer.
The Telluride Historic District, which includes a significant portion of the town, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also one of Colorado’s 20 National Historic Landmarks. The town population was 2,325 in the 2010 United States Census.[6]
Black Bear Road is a notorious jeep trail that starts from 11,018-foot (3,358 m) summit of Red Mountain Pass on U.S. Highway 550 (between Ouray and Silverton) to Telluride. The Black Bear Road crests at Black Bear Pass, elevation 12,840 feet (3,910 m). The road descends over a set of infamous switchbacks as it navigates the heights above Telluride. The road passes Bridal Veil Falls, Colorado, the highest waterfall in Colorado. The trail/road can be hiked, biked or jeeped.

$300 Cabin – Off Grid
They decided to build this little cabin as an add-on to their RV. Right now, their RV is under a ShelterLogic Garage-in-a-Box which has no insulation whatsoever. They thought that if they could build a small 10′ x 12′ cabin onto the end of the carport that we could heat the entire enclosure with a wood stove. They have been working to insulation the carport fully, so between all of their efforts they have managed to heat the inside to 68 degrees!
The best part of all is that they built this off grid cabin ourselves with reclaimed materials. Instead of spending $3,000+ to build this cabin, they did it for about $300. Most of these materials came from a demolition they were able to help out with which you can see in their other videos. They also were able to salvage many second-hand building materials with a barter flyer they put up around town.
They are loving their little cabin! Have they ever built a cabin before? NOPE! Do they feel more confident about their building skills? Yes! Did they learn a lot that they can implement when building their barn and house? YES!
